APRIL – Foodies Festival on Bank Holiday Weekend

Friday 29 April to Sunday 1 May – Foodies. Hove Lawns (by the seafront) will host this fabulous food and drink festival. Visitor’s can expect to experience wine tastings, cooking demonstrations from some of our favourite chefs, sampling of food both sweet and savoury while being able to listen to live music and watch various dancing displays. JUNE – Martlet’s Midnight Walk

JUNE – London to Brighton Bike Ride

Takes place on Sunday 18 June – British Heart Foundation (BHF) London to Brighton Bike Ride. With 27,000 cyclists taking part each year this is the largest of the British Heart Foundation’s sponsored events. Takes place on Sunday 25 June – Capital to Coast Bike Ride. JULY – Paddle Round the Pier

On July 1st-2nd there is Paddle Round The Pier (or ‘Paddle’) the world’s biggest FREE beach and water-sports festival. It runs every year on the beautiful venue of Hove Lawns and features the very best in water, street & urban sports, live music, kids’ entertainment, ‘have a go’. SEPTEMBER — National Speed Trials

Saturday 2 September marks Brighton’s National Speed Trials. This seafront event has been running since 1905. The event allows spectators to watch over 200 cars and motorcycles travel along Madeira Drive racing against the clock.

NOVEMBER — Veteran Car Run

On Sunday 5 November, there is the Veteran Car Run. 1896 was a red-letter day in British motoring: the ‘Emancipation Run’ from London to Brighton (Madeira Drive) celebrates the passing of the Locomotives on the Highway Act. This raised the speed limit for ‘light locomotives’ from 4mph to 14mph and abolished the requirement to be preceded by a man on foot. The cars have an average speed of 20mph and the only reward for a successful run is a Finisher’s Medal (awarded to all who reach Brighton before 4.30pm).

NOVEMBER — 10k Road Race

Sunday 19 November – 10K Road Race. The Brooks 10km run is a fast, flat accurately measured course along the seafront, with start and finish on Madeira Drive. The race is the Sussex AAA 10K Men’s and Women’s Road Race Championship. The race now takes place entirely on the road, making it easier to get that personal best!

DECEMBER – Burning the Clock

Thursday 21 December – Burning the Clocks Winter Solstice event. Annually there is a community lantern parade through the city finishing with a firework display from the beach by Madeira Drive. Designed to celebrate the winter solstice, this event has around 20,000 spectators.
